Principal's Message

Aloha Kakou. Welcome to our Waianae Elementary website!

Here is some information about who we are:

Welcome to Wai‘anae Elementary School (WES), home of the Seahorses! Here at WES we work to provide a family atmosphere with a dedicated staff that shares a commitment to provide a safe learning space and a quality education. Our mission is for our students to be life-long learners who possess the skills to problem solve and contribute positively to society.

In the upcoming year, we will continue to focus on providing instruction to meet the needs of our students.  Our Language Arts program integrates experiences in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. We will also continue to advance in our Mathematics with an emphasis on building our student problem solving and critical thinking skills.  Students will also receive instruction in Science and Social Studies with a focus on using small group instruction and formative assessments to help focus on student learning.

We have an open door policy at WES and it is our desire that our school is an integral part of the community. Parents are welcome to volunteer in classrooms and encouraged to be active in the education of their child(ren). Parents are a child’s first teachers and are vital in helping them reach their fullest potential.  Throughout the year we will be holding various ohana nights and invite all families to come and join.

Preparing students to be productive citizens is a priority at Wai‘anae Elementary School. Our students have the opportunity to participate in numerous activities that enhance the curriculum and foster the development of social/emotional growth. Programs include: Student Council, Peacemakers, cultural arts assemblies, altruistic efforts to benefit the community, lunch-time programs, and recreational reading programs.

We believe in providing access, opportunities, and options for ALL students.  We will continue to develop our students through our 4-core values of having Self-respect; knowing that they are Worth-it; being Involved; & having a Mindset for success!
